Spay Day 2011

Good job to Cat Welfare Society! This year, they managed to get nearly 400 cats sterilized. The response is overwhelming!

The very first Spay Day 2006, the targetted number of cats was 100. 6 years later, it's a 300%
increase. Back in those days, the participants were mainly aunties, nowadays we see a lot more younger people involved in this meaningful event.

Lingcat started trapping 2 days before the Spay Day, 6 trappings and a couple of transports, including a hoarder case, 95 cats from Lingcat for Spay Day 2011.

Hoarder case is the toughest job, 18 cats, and I had to keep a low profile so as not to alert the neighbours. 2 carriers by 2 carrier the cats are carried up and down the stairs.

Clear labels are printed for Spay Day to minimize errors. Thanks goodness, no error so far, Lingcat is left with last 17 girls to be released.

Though extremely exhausted, I am glad that many cats benefited from such event.

Speical mention to the super macik who looked after the cats when I collapsed with exhaustion after Spay Day!

Lastly special thanks to Clinic for Pets, Light of Life, James Tan Veterinary Hospital and Animal & Avian Veterinary Centre for their help to sterilized the excess cats!!

White FoOt

This handsome tux, White Foot (not a very auspicious name in hokkien, literally translated to 'limping'), you guessed, broke his hind leg.
From the Xray below, the bone has splitted into 3 pieces. Orthopaedic veterinary surgeons are rare and expensive. WF was transferred from clinic to clinic, hoping to meet a kind vet who'll treat him at a cheaper rate. The trusted vets he initially seen are not able to perform such surgery due to lack of facilities and the specialize skills required.

Lingcat has heard about the legendary Dr Hsu from The Animal Clinic. He is well known for his excellent surgery skills and kind heart. Lingcat has not been a regular client as he is hard to get and waiting time is long.

Given the choice of the 3 big players, Lingcat tried her luck with calling The Animal Clinic. WF is blessed, Dr Hsu was on duty. After a not-too-long wait, WF had his initial consult and Dr Hsu kindly schedule him for surgery the next day!

WF has a pin inserted into his bone and tied up with wire. The whole surgery cost less than $500. WF will be boarding with Lingcat for a month before he's released back to his community.

Jack the Honey Bear

Honey Bear is more like his name, he's the sweetest big boy. I love cats with big jowl. Poor boy had his eye stitched up due to an injury. He has been with Lingcat for a week-and-a-half and will be going back to the vet for review next Tuesday. If everything is fine, he'll be released back to his community.

A sneak preview of how a professional cat trapper works.

This video is really a teeny tiny bity of the real work!

I started out as a caregiver, trapping and sterilizing cats in my neighbourhood and schools. It was only about a year ago did I start providing my humble skill and service to fellow caregivers.

In 2006, I got to know Vincent engaged his service to catch a couple of cats. One of the cats is a gangster tom cat I spent years trying to trap with no success. Amazingly, in less than 10 minutes, he solved the problem that tormented me for years!!

Since then, I have been working closely with him on his cat trapping rounds. Each trapping session is unique, from the most basic of just setting cat traps, to the straight forward netting, to highly challenging cases of extremely cautious cats or cats in difficult situations.

Of the countless trappings I witnessed, the most memorable, is a case along a corridor of a HDB block. He did a round-round-the-corner netting of a running cat!!

In second place, Vincent netted a fully fed cat (we always request the feeders not to feed before the session, but ghost feeders are out of control). This cat was cautious BUT curious. As the saying goes, curiosity kills the cat. This cat wasn't killed, but castrated. *wink*.

What the cat did was to peek into the cat trapper's van. Unfortunately, 最危险的地方不是最安全的地方(the most dangerous place isn't the safest place)!! With is front paws resting on the back bumper of the van, hind legs stretched in a standing pose, and his head sniffing the carriers in the open van, he was swiftly netted to join the other 'captives' bound for sterilization.

Cat Trap vs Cat Net

This topic is something I wanted to share for the longest time.

Cat Traps vs Cat Netting
For a while, I've heard stories in the community cat network regarding using a net to catch cats. These people claim that netting a cat is cruel and will hurt the cat, and that using a cat trap is a better option.

This is contrary to what I've observed and experienced, as a veteran cat trapper.

The humane cat trap is made of steel, which is a very hard and strong material. Cat trapped usually bang itself against the steel enclosure trying to free itself. Cats often ended up with bloody nose and bleeding paws. The time taken to transfer cats from cat trap to cat carriers isn't in hands of the catcher. It very much depend if the cat is cooperative or not.

The saddest case I've done, is in an area near Novena, a cat tried to free herself by biting the trap. The poor little cat bit so hard that her tooth came off!!

Comparably, a cat net used by us is made of nylon, and the frame is made of aluminum which is a soft metal. Together with the skill of professional cat catcher, it is by far the safest option. While it may appear to be more trumatizing, it is actually doesn't hurt the cat. Transfering the cat into the carrier is also within control of the catcher, which usually takes less than a minute for the cat to be safely inside the plastic carrier.

An anology to this is theory is the usage of a knife. Give a knife to a sushi chef, he will carve perfect slice of sashimi. And a knife in the hands of bad guy, he will probably commit a murder or rob someone.

I am sadden to hear negative stories about the use of cat net. It is like condemning the sushi chef because of an evil deed done by the robber.

Ping Ping & Ann Ann.

This pair of tortoiseshell sisters settled very well in England. They've becomed typical angmoh cats, living in a 3 storey 100 year old town house with a big garden.

What remains the same, is their passion in stealing human food!! They can't resist the smell of sambal & curry, I was told. And they simply love chicken and turkey!

That's Ping Ping, getting into the way in the kitchen, trying to steal some scraps while we are not looking.

And there's Ann Ann, my favourite of the pair (she's the one that got knocked down by a motorbike when she was 2 months old). She's watching her favourite places, namely the kichen and garden, perched on a vintage TV. Their new owner is into antique and the house is filled with plenty!

Ping & Ann are kept indoor most of the time and only let out into the garden for a short while everyday. They only get to go out before meals, reason being only the shaking of their dry food tin will bring them bouncing back. The other reason is that they tend to hunt and are very successful hunters, bringing in 6 birds in total until the new rule is put in place.

Ping & Ann have carved out their territory out of the garden. Ping has the area to the right of the garden and Ann will always come back from the left.

The Other Side of the Globe

Lingcat went on a trip to United Kingdom sometime last month. This trip is very much focused on cats, with visits to cattery and shelters.

On the first day upon my arrival in Lincolnshire, the friend took me to visit their RSPCA.

Unlike our SPCA, Lincolnshire's RSPCA is built on a big piece of land with plenty of space for the animals. The RSPCA rescue not only domestic animals, they rescue horses, goats & geeses.

In the cat section, the cats were houses in cubicles with heating, blanket, toys and an outdoor pen. Most of the cats up for adoption are full grown cats, given up for various reasons.

After the visit, the friend took me for a traditional English high tea before heading to the boarding cattery where Ping & Ann stay when she went on holidays.

The cattery cattery owner is a retired army officer. She live in a big house in the village with her mother. The cattery is a stand alone building with an attached office. There are about 10 spacious cubicles overlooking green fields.

There are many regulations for running the cattery, such as, cats from different household can't be housed together and there have to be someone around all the time. For such stringent rules, the fees are surprisingly afforable.

Ear Tipping

Recently on my round of cat trapping, I've trapped quite a few sterilized female cats with no ear tipping.

Unfortunately, there are many of such irresponsible owners who can't bear to tip the ear BUT can bear to abandon the cat...

In my course of work, I've come across unreasonable cases where 'cat owners' demand the sponsors to sterilize their cats for free without ear tipping. Sadly, these sponsors tend to give in to such demands just to get the cats sterilized hence not to mulitply. Often these cats ended up in the street once the novelty waned.

Sending these cats for 're-sterilization' is a waste of efforts and resources, especially for caregivers who are stretched to the max in finance department.

Cat Show: Feline Fancier Society Singapore

Last weekend, I spent half a Saturday at Feline Fancier Society Singapore's cat show at The Chevrons. I helped out as a Ring Clerk for Judge Yikiko.

Due to my hectic work schedule and bad weather, I arrived just in time for the show. Unfortunately, that also mean I didn't have time to settle down and prepare for the judging. Making it worst, my ring started with Premiership cats, the most difficult catergory in my opinion as there involved the most type of ribbons.

Nevertheless, I got the hang of it and got used to her style of judging and we managed to finish judging before the rest.

David was entered into the show under Household Pet catergory. He did well, got ribbons from all four rings and even got a 2nd best HHP ribbon. David was so comfortable at the show, as he should be, for a cat who loves cats and people. He was meowing at the 'top' of his sweet voice, catching the judge's attention, rubbing in the cage, flirting with the judge. Once again, well done to David.

Rescue: Clement

About 2 weeks back, Lingcat picked up a cat for sterilization. While at the regular sterilization veterinary clinic, we discover this horrid injury on the cat's back. I was told by the caregiver that this cat has a healing wound at the back and to ask the vet to clean up the wound. Little am I expecting such a gaping wound on his back.

This poor boy was transfered to Namly Animal Clinic for treatment. He was first put on IV drip as he was severly dehydrated. He is also given a name, called Clement.

Poor Clement has to undergo 3 surgery to stitch up his wound bit by bit as there's not enough skin to stitch up at one go. Luckily Clement happens to be a very sweet and brave boy. He's not trumatized by this experience. He enjoys chin rub by the veterinary nurses.
Clement's caregiver is footing the bill which will exceed $1000.

Mei Mei is looking for a loving permanent home where she'll be showered with love and care.

Mei Mei is a shy girl who needs time to warm up to her new family. The new owner must get her sterilized at 6 months of age.

Old Community Cats

Sometimes, I do reminisce the good ol' school days when go around the neighbourhood early in the morning before school. During then, every single community cats were given a name and accounted for. I am blessed that this neighbourhood never suffer the ill fate of culling, even during SARS period. Over the years, many have left for the rainbow bridge due to natural cause.

This old fellow belong to the newer batch of community cats. Unfortunately, after I shifted out of the neighbourhood, I stopped naming them. I know him as a cat loved by the barber shop, who used to sleep in the long gone handphone shop, roamed the vacinity of the MRT station and being extremely territorial.

I depend heavily on the caregivers residing in the neighbourhood to monitor the cats. Luckily many of them are responsible and will call me if there's any abandoned newbie. I am happy to send them for sterilization, pro bono, like what I've did for the past many years.

I haven't hear from these people for nearly a year, keeping my fingers crossed, that there are no more abandonment.

In this neighbourhood, only left with nameless sterilized cats, as my old friends now live in my memory.

Lingcat has always been a moggie person.

A couple of weeks back, I have the pleasure of caring for a pair of pedigree ragdolls. They are the sweetest pair of cat I've met. Their owners carried them in their arms to my place. They were so sweet, no struggle, not noise, no fuss.

The resident cats at Lingcat's have other ideas about these 2 fellows. They've not seen cats that big, the pair are bigger than the rest though they're only 11 mths old, and fluffy. Maybe their long coat made them look intidmidating, like angry cats.

Do hope to foster them again. =)

I call her Star's kittenhood sweet heart. When she was first her for boarding, they were both kittens.
She came again when she was a teenage girl. During that then, Star started his courtship. He serenade to her! Aka, he caterwaled all night long!!

Now both of them are all grown up and sterilized. Beauty has grown up to be a fiesty lady with superb agility. She's a flying cat!

This silly boy with a pretty face is damn lucky and greedy!

He kept gobbling up the food in the cat trap setup for his mummy. Because of his irritating antics, I had to scruff and lecture him.

To my (and later our) horror, this silly boy has 2 gaping infected wound on his tummy. We have no idea how he got injured. But my guess is cat bite? We wouldn't have discovered this if he has not been so irritating.

So this little boy was sent to Vet @ RV for treatment. Many thanks to Dr Tan to keep the bill low. The stitching was done beautifully! Look at him, showing off his belly just one week after surgery!
He has made full recovery and is looking for a permanent loving home. The rules are as follow.
1. 20 years commitments.
2. Not to be dumped during festive seasons.
3. Not to be dumped when maid quit.
4. Not to be dumped when baby arrives.
5. Not to be left to multiply.

Lingcat fully support the government's No Stray Policy and is working very hard to achieve it. If you are looking to jeopardise my commitment towards my dear government by breaking the rules, please adopt a child.

Meowcolm & the Gang

This box of trouble is under Lingcat's care. Their poor mummy couldn't hold them in for just one night longer. They popped out one by one during the night and we got a surprised at the vet the day when mummy was supposed to be sterilized.

This litter of tiny gangsters are ready to look for new homes. Ok, I won't say 'new home', just 'home' because they won't have one in the first place if they were born on the roof.

These gangsters were born on 2 Sep 2010. This made them slightly over 2 months old. They are able to eat dry kitten food, although sometimes they stubbornly want it to be mixed with wet food. Their mummy have taught them to use the litter box before Lingcat kicked her out.

Mummy is a crazy cat! She tried to murder Lingcat everyday she was here. She hissed, swiped and spitted!! I am sure Mummy is happy to be back on street, where she truly belongs.

The gangsters are looking for permanent loving home.
1. Not to be thrown out during festive seasons.
2. Not to be left unsterilized to create more gangsters.

Basically if you are not prepared to commit to the net 20 years of their short lives, then don't bother to try your hands on them. Lingcat bite such humans!

Spay Day 2010

Spay Day hold a very special place in my heart. This year is Cat Welfare Society's 5th Spay Day. I throughly first 4 Spay Days, unfortunately, due to personal commitments, I was not able to get fully involved in this year's Spay Day. Oh well..

Nevertheless, I was a teeny-weeny-bitty involved in the event. CWS has hired Lingcat Feline Services as a transporter. I was assigned the furthest clinic on the list. =( Yup, from Bedok to Holland V!! Eek!!

Three cheers for the Bedok team!! The cats were sent in to the clinics pronto!

In between, there were a few hiccups. One with a every-year-confirm-give-problem veterinary clinic. And then there was a new clinic with no-abortion policy, hence a cat had to transfer clinic at very last minute.

I do appreciate the rapport built up with some clinics, hence emergencies can be attended to. Thanks to the great people at James Tan Veterinary Clinic for taking in the pregnant cat at 4.30pm...

On the other hand, I am extremely sadden by the wastage of slots by irresponsible caregivers. Probably it is the typical Singaporean kiasu mentality, ask the whole neighbourhood to book for you and fly aeroplane because there is no penalty. Although no official figure is released, from what I gathered, I feel that at least 100 slots are wasted.

I do hope CWS will continue the tradition by holding Spay Day on a yearly basis. And I hope caregivers will not waste the slots.

Namly Animal Clinic

My very first encounter with Dr Ling of Namly Animal Clinic was about 10 years ago. It was when Cat Welfare Society just established.

Pipi the cat with prolapsed rectum was sent to Dr Ling, by a founding member of CWS, for treatment just one day after giving birth. Dr Ling got her condition fixed and sterilized. Pipi lived to ripe old age on the street. (Actually, she lived under the cars most of the time.)

Till today, Namly is still my favourite veterinary clinic for treatment. I love their strict appointment base system. I seldom have to wait more than 10 minutes to see the vet. Collecting the medicine and paying the bill are also extremely efficient.

Dr Ling is able to give sensible advise towards treatment of stray cats. She knows caregivers need to optimize the resources and their mentality. I put my trust in her judgements.

Although her clinic is relatively far from where I stay, I don't mind the long journey to her clinic.

Leica, in the photo above, is slightly aloof compared to his brother Milo. Leica loves to get into this pose asking for a good belly rub. Unlike his brother, he doesn't greet me at the door, he'll sit in a corner before warming up to me.

David & the Singapore Cat Club Show

David did the community cats proud by scoring 3rd and 10th place out of 3 rings at Singapore Cat Club's show a few weeks ago.

David is such a lovely boy, he was purring away thru the day. He is not shy and loves people.

David is the sweetest cat in the household. If anyone were to visit, he will be the first to greet the person. He will come when called and likes to sit with me to be stroked.

David is a long term boarder at Lingcat's. Because of his lovely personality, he always get beaten up in the street. He was injured and sent to recuperation home twice before the caregivers decided that he is better off in a boarding home.

This handsome boy was boarded at my place for 3 months. He was a terror prior to sterilization. He was so full of hormones that even after a few weeks after sterilization, he is still chasing away other cats.

After 3 months of re-hab, he is the sweetest boy at home. Yes, every other cat in the household bully him, even though he is biggest in term of size.

He has got the most lovely temperament towards people. Very suitable to be a pet cat. Unfortunately, according to the caregiver, he was abandoned because his ex-family has got too many cats to cope with.

Case of Domestic Violence

I live in a nursery amid beautiful greenery and fresh air. I gave birth to kittens and made this my home.

One day, a kind soul took me in a carrier and told me I don't have to undergo pain of giving birth and heartache of loosing kittens to hungry dog. I came back with stitches on my tummy and a snipped ear. It doesn't matter if I looked a little lopsided with the missing ear tip, I am happy to have food and shelter.

My fortune came to a halt when my ex-boyfriend turned up. He was a macho looking man when I first knew him. Now he's an old, ragged, mean looking tom. Because I can no longer, erm, satsify his desire, he vent his anger on my by beating me up. That's how I lost my left eye.

After a few months of peace, he came back again. He was not in the best mood due to the loss of territories to some young fellows. Once again, he took it out on my by biting and kicking me.

I suffered scratches on my back and a deep bite on my front leg. It swelled and I was in great pain.

Luckily, the fairy god-mother (the lady who got me sterilized and eye treated), came to my rescue again. She arrange for someone to pick me up and sent me to Dr Heng to be treated.

I am now staying in a welfare shelter, waiting for my special someone to love and care for me the rest of my life.

This little long kang cat, yes was inside the drain when I adopted hin, has grown up to be a BIG BULLY!!

He chase and beat other cats whenever he is in the mood. Luckily for other cats, they are non-aggressive, hence they can still live in peace, except for Boy. They can't be left alone together , else I would find two shreadded cats!

This Ann Ann look alike kitten stayed over for a week. She is highly intelligent and extremely hyper, just like Ann Ann. She hates to be caged up and will make hell lot of noise to protest. She got her way, and I had to clean up after her bcoz she hasn't learn to use the kitty litter. =(

She has got the cutest little face, just like Ann Ann. I hope she is just as lucky.

Hungry Cat at Changi Village

Generally, I do not feed community cats.

In many areas, our community cats are well cared for and very well fed. It is not uncommon to chance upon a community cat who is a fussy eater. I have met caregivers who prepare different type of food and flavours of cat food to pamper their cats.

This afternoon, I met a poor little mother cat who is famished!! She is just skin and bone and nursing her babies. I didn't see her kittens but she is obviously nursing and absolutely friendly.

I gave her a pouch of salmon cat food and some kibbles and wished her all the best.

This tabby cat, David, is such a good natured fellow. He used to be the best friend of Mango, the ginger cat, who was here for adoption.

Now he plays mummy to Jello the tabby kitten. He allows Jello to suckle on him with no complain at all.

Due to his mild personality, David always get bullied by other cats in his estate. He was injured twice on his front legs and had to have his wound treated. He is now a very happy & contented cat, staying in my place.

After I posted up the adoption notice for the Siamese kittens, I got a few SMSes from potential adopters.
I am rather amused when some of them started by asking immediately where I live, without even introducing themselves. Some even ask for freebies.
I see the adoption of kittens like a job interview. You've to sell yourself to me. You have to let me know your past experience with cats (if any), why you're looking to adopt, what kind of care will you be providing, so I know I can trust you with them.
It is not as if you are doing me a great favour, by getting rid of them from my care.
So of course, I have 2 mental lists. And if you are in my second list, you are opposite of white.

She is a guest at Lingcat's. Beauty is her name and she is a lithe & feisty teenage girl. Star was extremely happy and excited to have her over to stay again. He was 'jumping with joy', by running and jumping all over the room to invite her to play.

It is an unfair game, as Star is big and chunky while she is small and lithe. She is so fast, she hit him & shoot off. Star can never catch up to take revenge.

This little acrobat scales the window grills, walks on the aircon pipe and make herself safe and comfortable on top of the wardrobe.

The last time I hand feed kittens this tiny, was Wasabi and her sister who has gone to heaven. I am re-living through the nightmare multiply by two. Yes, four screaming kittens, instead of two.

They don't understand that I've only got a pair of hands and suckling on my toes doesn't help with filling up their tummies. So I tried introducing wet kitten food to them. They ate. They eat by lying right on top of the food with all 4 legs spread apart!!

They're looking all nice and clean just after a warm bath and blow dry from the hair dryer. They seem to appreciate the heat from the hair dryer and don't seem to mind the noise at all.

Yesterday, I bid farewell to 2 of my guests.

Mr Bob went back to his family after staying for over a month. He is such a sweet boy who only likes to bully my Star.

Cupido was the second to go, he went back to his caregiver who will continue to look for a good home after all the ordeal.
This afternoon, Mango went to his new home. I was a little reluctant to let him go as he got along extremely well with one of my other cat, David. The 2 of them were very entertaining chasing each other round the house, play fighting.

Mango isn't a least bit upset when he went to his new home. He happily bounced out of his carrier and started exploring! He has a feline house mate who is a little shy. I do hope the get along well! All the best!

This pair of lucky tortoise shell sisters have been living in UK for 9 months!!

They've experience their first snowfall, and tasted fresh turkey for X'mas!

Look at them, they've grown so much since leaving Singapore last April. Thanks to their new owner for showing love and care!

I am so looking forward to visit them...

PS. these photos are taken at the UK cattery where they are boarded when the new owner was renovating her house. Yes, they've got a double storey house and a fenced in garden to play in.

Happy New Year!

A new year, a new start. Well, not exactly new 'new'. Yup, I am providing service to fellow feline fans.

As listed on the namecard, I do cat transport/ sitting/ boarding(short term)/ trapping. So far, my favourite has been cat trapping for sterilization as that's what I've been doing since I was a kid (erm okay, a little bigger than a kid.)

Spay Day 2009

For nearly a month, I've been all excited about Spay Day. The planning and organizing kept me on the toes.

Out of the 227 slots available, 210 are filled up. That's 90% filled, way above my estimation of 80%.

My heartfelt thanks go out to the wonderful caregivers at Tampines, who close knit network ensure that no slot went to waste. And the other caregivers who signed up for Tampines pick-up point, who are hard core cat trappers!! I am really touched by their commitment towards community cats.

Also worth mentioning, Bedok caregivers did a wonderful job by filling up all the slots too. I don't know how they did it, but still they are an amazing lot!

As for AMK, the overwhelming response that I was expecting didn't happen. Caregivers who had told me in advance that they will be bringing in extra cats to fill up absent slots, didn't bring those cats. Nevertheless, I tried my best to ensure that those unwanted slots are filled up.

Yeah, I went trapping just hours before Spay Day. I managed to catch 5 tom cats, thanks to the help of a trusting caregiver whom I never spoke to before. And thanks to her cats that trusted her so much to lose their balls.

I was at the AMK pick-up point the at 6.30am. Cats started to come in soon after. It was an eventful morning. We had people going to the wrong pick-up points. We had a transporter whose van broke down, I had to rush down to Bedok to help. Luckily there's another transporter who finish his route early enough to back up.

If that's not enough trouble, there's a veterinary centre who book us in as 2nd in priorty. We were told that they can't promise to finish sterilizing all the cats by that day. I have to reallocate the some cats to another clinic.

Like the previous years, the Spay Day volunteers are wonderful! This year, the volunteers at AMK point are new, but they really did a good job with labelling and sorting the cats! Special thanks to Regina, Timothy, Yang Huan, Qi Yao & Nancy!! And thanks to Ley Chin and June who volunteered for Tampines.

And of course, Spay Day couldn't happen without the wonderful vets who specially set aside time to do as many cats as possible for us.

I bumped into this pair of sterilized cats at an industrial park I used to frequent. They are happily playing with each other.

When I first saw them, the girl was pregnant and the boy was a gangster.

Sterilization made them such a joy to watch.

Our first encounter was terrible. It was a telephone conversation which lead to a heated argument.

Basically, he is a nasty, arrogant guy.

He had went down to the work place of one of the responsible caregiver, and complaint to her superior about her feeding cats. I don't see why he should bring that issue to her company. She feeds cats during her personal time, what has that got to do with her job?

I called him to clarify the issue of feeding cats. And he started off with these...

"YOU THESE PEOPLE leave food around and my cleaners had to clean up after you!"

When I said that those caregivers I work with will clear up after feeding. He demanded...

"YOU go and see the corridor at Blk XXX, there are food left there!"

I asked who has seen this caregiver or any of us putting food there, he claimed that he can't reveal the witness.

I told him that my group of caregivers is different from "YOU THESE PEOPLE" who litter. He said....

"I don't care, I will just summon anyone I see feeding cats!"

Since he is so unreasonable, we ended the conversation here.

Fuming mad, I called his manager who happens to be a newbie as well. Luckily, he is a reasonable guy whom I can properly communicate with. I explained to him what we are doing and he can always turn to us if there's any cat complaint.

I also told him that we will not stop him to summon people who doesn't clear up after feeding. I also asked for a reasonable time allowance to clear up after feeding.

Remember this pair of sisters, Ping Ping and Ann Ann? After a long wait of almost a year, they are finally going to their new home on the other side of the planet.

It is a long process to get the procedures done so they can fly directly into UK without qurantine.

Other than the normal procedure like vaccinations & sterilization, they had to be microchipped, rabies jabs and blood sample sent to UK for testing. All these done, the transport agent is arranging for their flight and misc documents before they depart next week.

They are almost full grown adult cats but are still extremely playful. They jump around like monkeys and got along perfectly with Mulan.

Wasabi show signs of interest to befriend them. She is abit screw loose and will give the young cats a good smack when she feels like it. Of course, they stay out of her way.

Libitina is as usual, extremely upset about the intrusion.

This family of 3 black-and-whites took over the ginger family of 4 which was 'wiped-out' by sterilization.

Eviction from Warehouse

I come across this warehouse with 10 cats.

The feeder, an employee of the warehouse, is unaware of sterilization and has allowed the mother cat who took residence, to give birth to 2 litters.

She has just sent the first litter of 4 kittens for sterilization. The mother cat who is still nursing at the new litter of five 3 month old kittens will be sterilized in 2 months time.

The lease of the warehouse is expiring in May 2009.

She is appealing for people to adopt her 5 young kittens. The kittens are all male and are very healthy.

This ear-tipped tortoise-shell girl is now the 'official' cat of this particular Esso station I frequent.

I have seen her a couple of times. When I was there again 2 days ago, she is spotted with a pretty collar.

I asked the cashier if this cat belonged to the station, she replied 'No, but the patrons feed her.'

Dad jokingly added in if we can bring her home. The cashier promptly replied 'You can try, but I don't think she wants to go with you.'

See, she's their 'official' cat.

She is in the pink of health, quite obviously just removed from the mother. She is able to eat wet food and is still wobbly.

Mu Lan went on leave during Chinese New Year. I brought her back to live with me while the factory was shut for the festive season.

She is definitely happier back at the factory. For the 2 weeks at my place, she was constantly attacked by Wasabi. She can't eat and play in peace. She has to be shut into the cage at night, else Wasabi will launch a sudden attack on her in the middle of the night.

Mulan will hide away when I am not around. When she heard my voice, she will quickly descent from her hidding spot. Then she will keep me company for till I knock off.

Changi Ferry Terminal

This afternoon, I headed down to Changi Ferry Terminal in search of the cat with fish hook in paw.

Seeing the stanger around, the shy fellow went to hide in the drain.

After getting the necessary clearance and getting in touch with the feeder, the injured kitten is nowhere to be seen. Despite the feeder calling and tempting with food, there is no sign of the kitten.

The feeder agreed to borrow a cage from his friend and try catching on his own.

CWS is appealing for funds to treat this cat.

This ginger kitten was picked up last night. He was meowing at the top of his voice when I walked pass. I was surprised to see him as it is a well-managed area with stable cat population.

To my horror, when I walked closer, his left ear was snipped off. He is only about 3 months old and definitely not sterilized. His balls are not even fully developed.

I wonder if the person who is it do it out of 'kindness' so he will not be 'culled'. Or as a prank.

I couldn't turn my back on him as he was just following every single passer by. And there was a mentally-handicapped boy trying to lure him into the lift.

Hence, he was picked up from the street to be showered with TLC.

Another cat? Anyone? He is a very pretty pale ginger.

FFSS's Festive Catnival

Sunday was spent at FFSS's Festive Catnival cat show. I was tasked to clerk at Ring 1 with Judge Donna Fuller from USA.

Greeting me at the carpark of The Chevrons, is a friendly unsterilized tortie. She has got the temprement for a show cat.

The Hibiscus Room was buzzing with activities as the cat lovers prepare their kitties for show.

I settled at my desk and flipped through the show catalogue. This was the 2nd time doing clerking. I tried my best to recall the meaning of the ribbons and the recording.

I was very glad that our ring started with Kitten Catagory. There were only 10 kittens of just 3 different breed. It was a breeze.

There are 4 catagories in the cat show.

Kitten- for pedigree cats under 8 months of age.
Championship- for pedigree cats above 8 months of age and unsterilized.
Premiership- for pedigree cats above 8 months of age and sterilized.
Household- for non-pedigree cats above 4 months of age.

Each catagory, the judge will award her top 10 cats with the rosette. Each of these cats will receive cat food and cat litter sponsored by Pro-plan and Pet Lover's Centre.

We finished 2 catagories, Kitten and Household before stopping for lunch. Household catagory had the most contestents. There were a few ear-tipped cats and I noted many had kinky tails.

Here's the judge, Donna Fuller, judging an Exotic Shorthair. Though termed 'shorthair', Exotic is classified under the 'longhair' catagory. Probably because they are closely related to Persian.

We got quite a few Mainecoon in this show. They are the giants in the domestic cat family. The judge and the owners had a difficult time taking them out of the cage.

I bought 2 packets of junk food for my kitties. The collar came free with purchases above $5. The collar will be put on Zhan Zhao when I rescue him later. *will share his misadventure later*
